OPEN

Keyboarding Contest

I am sponsoring a keyboarding contest; open to all West Woodland fifth grade students. There are two components to the contest: The actual contest where students compete for large prizes by having the fastest net speed and accuracy, and the secondary contest, where student get inducted into the Keyboarding Clubs by completing the lesson plans in Typingweb.com. All fifth grade students are using Typingweb.com in their classroom this year and have accounts they can access from home or any community computer access like: The Seattle Library. I also, allow students to do keyboarding practice in the computer lab during any free class time and before school in the Computer Driver’s License Program (CDL), starting at 8AM every morning. Students may also ask MS. Wittmann when the school library computers are available for Keyboarding practice.

The official contest will start on, June 2rd and go until June 13th. The contest will be conducted through Typingtest.com.  Typingtest.com is the Website we use for keyboarding exams in the Computer Driver’s License Program.  All keyboarding tests submitted for the competition in June will need to be three minutes long and be verified by me in the computer lab. This can be done during the weekly scheduled keyboarding class and during any morning computer lab class (CDL). Students may take as many keyboarding tests as they want, but only their highest score will need to be recorded.

To be inducted into a Keyboarding Club, Students need only to practice their typing skills in typingweb.com and follow the basic instructions given in keyboarding class. I will post student progress on the lessons from typingweb.com, every week, on the main bulletin board in the computer lab. These reports are just a running record of how they are doing week by week. I am rewarding any fifth grader with a net speed or greater than 20 WPM with at least 20 lessons completed in Typingweb.com.  I will post the names of students in the various clubs: 20/20, 25/25, 30/30, etc…

(i.e.:  “20/20 Club”   Top #:  20 WPM Net Speed / Lower #:  20 lessons completed in Typingweb.com)

The fifth grade students that attain club status will receive a certificate plus a small reward, i.e.; candy bar, fancy pencil, etc… (If you have an idea of a low cost item that could be used as a reward, please let me know)

The top twenty contestants competing for the larger prizes will be posted starting: June 4th and updated daily until the end of the contest. The contest will only accept Typingtest.com typing test results that are verified by Mr. Sorensen or an officially trained proctor assign by Mr. Sorensen in the computer lab. The student with the top test score (speed/accuracy), verified by me, will win top prize. Ten, second place awards will be given to the students with the next highest net speed in Typingweb.com. The keyboarding test may be taken multiple times throughout the contest duration. Only the top twenty scores will be posted daily.

Top Prize:  SuperPad III  (Galaxy 3  Copy) Tablet ($ 100.00 Value)

Second Prize:  USB Flash Drive (S10.00 Value) (ten given out)
